WHAT IS A WITCH

Different cultures and different people come up with their own version of who or what is a witch. For centuries, a witch has been associated with all that is evil and dark. In general terms, a witch is considered to be the practitioner of witchcraft which is believed to be an evil craft in which dark and devil powers are summoned using supernatural powers. If you are one of them, who believe in the above mentioned theories, then it is time you widen your spectrum of “magical” knowledge.

A witch is anything, but evil and witchcraft is anything but an evil craft. Witchcraft evolved from an ancient pagan religion, Wicca. Those who embraced and practiced this religion were known as witches and the practice was known as witchcraft.

Wiccan religion is a very peaceful and a positive religion that entails a balanced way of life. It honours the mother earth and all of its creations and works towards revering and protecting nature. It promotes a whole and a complete divine relationship with the dynamic spirituality that nature holds. The Wiccans worship their respective God and Goddess, unlike any other religion which worships God. The Wiccans believe that it takes a male as well as a female to create one is not less superior to the other.

In other words Wicca is simply a way of life where one attunes himself to nature and creates a tight and spiritual bond with nature and all of its divine creations. Witches practice magic, and there is nothing dark or evil about it. In fact witches help and even heal all those who need them and bring about positivity within the world. Witches make use of spells as a tool for performing magic, and spells are nothing but rituals and prayers made to the divine power. Witches practice either solitary witchcraft or work in covens. Witches believe in the concept of retribution. They believe that any misuse of their magical prowess or performing wrong will reverberate back to them, this time with threefold the impact. And the same goes for doing good.

Witchcraft was known as “The Craft of the Wise” by the ancients. These men and women were considered wise because they knew and understood that life has to be led in attunement with nature and its forces and that mankind is not superior to nature or any of its creations, but just a segment of the very nature that we are now trying to over power. Witches believe in this simple yet the most powerful truth which the rest of us are yet to understand.

Witches have been, since centuries, persecuted for performing black magic and have been believed to be the cause of all evil. But, this just goes to show our lack of knowledge about their pure and peaceful religion. These misconceptions stemmed up from the myths that were created by those who opposed such nature based philosophies and religions and wanted people to resort to the churches’ way of thinking, and that is “man is the most supreme creature in the universe, superior even to nature and that mankind is the centre of the whole universe”.

These myths about witches only aggravated owing to the figments of people’s imagination and they were accused of summoning devils and demons for destroying the earth. And very sadly, these myths and misconceptions have been carried down to this day.

Witchcraft is simply a spiritual way of thinking that promotes understanding and learning of the earth and nature and its spiritual powers. Witches rely on the simple belief of retribution and teach us to take responsibility for our own actions and it is about time we took some.
