The traditional witchcraft can be associated with Britain mainly. In this region, it was performed for a long time. Witchcraft had much importance in the lives of people during those times. The situation continued till the so called “middle ages”. The process of witchcraft has been changing considerably since that time. During the medieval times, the process became more elaborate and witches used to include rituals in which their own blood was used to call upon the supernatural powers for helping them achieve the desired results. These practises forced many people to believe that witchcraft is associated with negativity. This later led to large scale witch hunts. They were tortured and punished for their activities. The traditional witchcraft that was present in the “British Isles” was known by the names Trad Witchcraft or the “Traditional Craft”.
The witch trails that were a part of the punishments during that time are of high importance in the traditional witchcraft and history of witches. However, this resulted in several innocent people suffering although they were not causing any harm to any body. It is learned that the witches associated with traditional witchcraft were tortured and were forced to agree that they worked with negative powers. They were also forced to admit that they caused harm to people with the help of unknown powers that existed in the world that are insensible to the human eyes. The hunt was mainly carried out by Christian forces. In other words, it can be said that Christianity was completely against practising witchcraft.
The changed circumstances resulted in less popularity for the witches. However, they were still present in society although their presence was concealed from those who were against it. In other words, they became a hidden culture. This was necessary for them to survive. Till the early years of 1950s, there were several laws that prevented the practise of witchcraft in England. It was in 1951 that these laws were repealed. The person punished for the last time as part of the witch hunts was “Jane Rebecca Yorke”. The incident took place in the year 1944.
In Ireland, the so called “witchcraft act” was active till 1983. In Israel, the British laws regarding this are still relevant. They obtained freedom from Britain before the year 1951 in which these laws were repealed.
There were several other laws that had been activated against witchcraft and were imposed in a large number of countries. These have been collected by people who conducted a research on the subject. Also witchcraft is found to exist in an ancient time period in the very basic form. Evidences for this were collected by archaeologists. This indicates that the concept of witchcraft and witches have been a part of human life since ancient times. Since that time the processes associated with witchcraft has been subject to several changes and today the system that is in use is different from what were present during the earlier days.
The traditional craft and its evolution of that is available today has been full of incidents. Presently, it has become a religion and the number of people with interest in witchcraft has been increasing significantly. Also, as mentioned above the traditional form of witchcraft was considered to be associated with negativity during a specific time period and in several places. The concept has been changed now and more and more people are becoming aware of the possibility of these processes being used for good purposes. Even teenagers are getting attracted towards witchcraft compared to older days.
